Ògo Tàwa Announcement:

Support for Our Black Heroes Statue Project

For centuries, Black leaders in Canada have made significant and indispensable contributions to Canadian society. However, regrettably, their remarkable achievements have largely gone uncelebrated.

The Black Heroes Statue Collection Project aims to rectify this long-standing absence of permanent statues honouring Black leaders in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). This initiative will serve as a one-of-a-kind local and international tourist attraction, unmatched by any other across Canada. These pieces will play a crucial role in dispelling negative stereotypes that perpetuate discriminatory behaviours towards the Black community. Moreover, they will serve as transformative resources, fostering interracial harmony and promoting inclusion.

By commemorating the stories of excellence and resilience, these statues will pay tribute to the invaluable contributions of Black Canadians throughout the 400-year history of Canada. Through our initiative to construct a national landmark that honours our Black heroes, we will unveil untold stories of strength and perseverance. In doing so, we offer a unique opportunity to learn about the unwavering determination and resilience exhibited by individuals who have been unjustly excluded from public landscapes and storytelling.

We are fortunate to have this project supported in large part by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
